First Outdoor Show – Hoboken NJ 2013

A view of the whole tent

Last week of running around for last minute details made it all worth it when setting up Love of Button’s first outdoor show.  I have to say I didn’t get much sleep on Saturday night from the excitement and this was a huge learning experience in itself, here are some fun facts…

1. Get there early – We could start setting up at 8:15, we got there right at 8:15 and we need all the time to get ready!

2. With outdoor tents, weights are IMPORTANT!  – We purchased weight since I had heard horror stories, but the weights we bought are U shaped and if they are not secure (tape across the opening) to the tent leg they will slide off and the tent will get air!  It happened to me,  my amazing husband that helps me with the shows went to go park the car and I was setting up the tables when all of a sudden the wind blew and the tent started to move!  I freaked out, dropped the table I was opening (landed on my ankle) and ran to one of the posts to hold it down.  Thank goodness I had an amazing neighbor that helped me and told me to secure them with tape.  So weights are IMPORTANT! (just know how to use the ones you have)

3. Make friends with your neighbors – I have got my best information from fellow vendors!  (and help with airborne tents)

4. Know the show you are vending at – I had never attending this show so I didn’t really know what to expect – note for next year, bring dog bones – there were sooo many dogs!

If anyone has a better way to set up this display, let me know.  We were noticing that since you had to enter the tent to see the merchandise, many people were just walking by without stopping.  Suggestions welcome!

Next show is in less than two week!!  Madison CT, here we come!
