Love of Buttons’ Field Trip

In school, field trips were the best days!  You get to break free of the daily grid and enjoy something out of the ordinary.  Well, last week Love of Buttons got to take a fun field trip with Fashion Classes of NJ.

We headed in to NYC for a fun-filled day of fashion education.

First, we made our way over to Mood Fabrics.  If you haven’t been there, its an experience!  Bolts of fabric, floor to ceiling, just waiting to be looked at.  From leather to suiting and everything in between, this place has what you need.  (the first time I walked in there – I was so intimated.  This is a true fabric place in the heart of the fashion district in New York City)  Now I love going to just look around to see what great stuff they have to offer!

Then we headed over to Depeche Mode Clothing offices to get a tour of their company.  What a blast that was!  We got to see where next seasons inspirations are established and how they come to life through the process.

Once we left there we headed towards to FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) to check out their exhibit on the history of lingerie.

Of course stopping at one of the MANY Starbucks to get a quick snack!  (I was just so excited that the barista spelt my name right, that never happens!)

Once arriving to FIT’s museum we were transported back to the early 1900’s through modern days fashions.  Man, what a difference!

My favorite quote of the day from one of Fashion Classes of NJ Students (mind you she’s 11) “why would you wear a bustle, it makes your butt look big”.  Kids say the darnest things.

I was sad I couldn’t take photos but I understand they want to perserve the pieces.  There is such beauty in the craftmanship of each piece.  If you get a chance, I would make it over there check it out!
